BLACK FRAMES HISTORY BLACK FRAMES came into being through the collaborative effort, of a group of independent film makers that understood, as a unified group, with the I CAN SPIRIT, even with minimal funds we could MAKE MOVIES. We began to organize in 1998 and in 1999 we did our first three short films, Poseys, Through Thick and Thin, and Nineteen. These films and another film completed by members, called The Homeless Tutor, were presented to the public at a GRAND FILM SHOWCASE, held at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Hollywood, CA in March of 2000. We consider that our first annual showcase. BLACK FRAMES understands the need to reach out into the community and has done so by holding a film workshop for The Concern Citizens of South Central Los Angeles, Dorez Douglas Film Training class. We have also helped in conducting a career day at the Stephen C. Foster elementary school in Compton. We are very proud of these endeavors and expect to continue in this area. We have started a monthly screening of film shorts offering an opportunity to let up and coming film makers network. We have produced The Black Frames Cable Show where we invite film makers to talk about there projects and the art of film making. We are involved with The Black Media Production Group, by helping construct their in-house studios. This year 2001 as a group that works in UNITY we have completed the principle filming of three short films, STEP BY STEP, (Pat Hopkins) HARD AS NAILS (Darryl Bohanan) and THE BIG RASCALS (Tyrone Livingston). These filmmakers were able to get a grant from BLACK FRAMES to help in the making of their films. These films have been completed and were shown at our 2nd ANNUAL SHOWCASE on April 28th 2001 in the Chaplin Theater at Raleigh Studio 650 N. Bronson Avenue, Hollywood, Ca. We have only been able to do these things through the support of our membership which is showing a dedication to our endeavor. This year we are planning to film a feature through the membership in the month of August, we held a reading of that feature (MOCHA RUNOVER) by Darryl D. Bohanan in February. We are researching the many areas of distribution. We are going to increase our involvement with Black Media Production Group with joint productions at the newly constructed studios, which has a sound studio, editing room, and sound stage with chroma-key capabilities, cameras, lighting, and the necessary equipment to do a complete production. We also will set up our Film Making and Multi Media Workshop this year. By keeping the CAN DO attitude we are moving STRAIGHT AHEAD in 2001. WE
